You have to download the game on your Xbox to be able to play it with your friends if they dont have a steam version as you...

They are playing on PC as well and with Game Pass Ultimate. I have Game Pass Ultimate and the game downloaded but cannot play with them because I did not download through the Microsoft Store?

If you have a Game Pass Ultimate subscription you should be able to download Ark from the Microsoft store for free. You will need to re download through the Microsoft Store in order to play, because you will be on Microsoft's Services and not Steam's.

Did you download the steam version for PC already? I think they are seperate IDs, so you would need the Microsoft store version to play with them, so yes, you will need to download that version to play with them

Well, if you will play on Xbox you must have to download. But i don't know about steam.

Steam and Gamepass are seperate platforms for the sake of playing games. That is, if half of you own the game on Steam and the other half have it on Gamepass, that means you can't all play together. So you all need to own or have access to a copy on the same platform. Then you will all need to download it to your machines. To your PC's if you're playing on Steam or to your Xboxes if you're playing on Gamepass.

As far as I am aware, there is no cross platform play between Steam and Xbox when it comes to Ark, so your Steam version cannot communicate with their Game Pass version of the game. You would have to download the Game Pass version of the game and start fresh there in order to play with other people using the Game Pass version.

Steam and the Microsoft store are selling different versions of the title. While the base game is the same. Contact the developer about implementing crossplay

Steam and Microsoft Gamepass are two separate marketplaces and you won't be able to play with your friends on Steam unfortunately.
